In a year dominated by DNB, hard techno, and afro-house, “Welcome To My World” slows it down (not one of the 14 tracks exceeds 128 bpm) and cuts through the noise with emotive melodies and breathtaking soundscapes anchored by the captivating beats that Wisternoff is known for.
Right from the start, the album invites us into a lush sonic rainforest. The lead single “Mui” starts the album off with a new interpretation of a Takeshi Furukawa ("The Last Guardian", "Star Wars: Clone Wars") composition originally written for the video game, “Planet of Lana.” Our introduction starts with haunting folkloric vocals, already priming my ears for an experience that delves into the otherworldly. There’s still an anchoring to the real world to keep you tethered, through the sound of chirping birds.
This soundscape continues throughout the album with heavenly highs dropping you into grimy lows. A shifting world that at times feels purely organic, and at others electronic, but that always feels just out of your reach. The kick stays muted and fuzzy, stuck in a place between real and imaginary. It’s an understated follow-up to his 2020 album “Nightwhisper” that expertly delves deeper into the dreamy and illusory. Perhaps this is a product of our world, there’s been plenty of time for introspection over the post-covid years. Regardless, as an artist already renowned for his soulful and evocative sound, Wisternoff somehow manages to surpass his own artistic benchmark.
